A bittersweet track about accepting your unique journey from the Boston area's Jenna May.

Jenna May’s “Slow Burn” is a bittersweet gem about accepting the pace of your unique journey, as difficult as that may be.

The delicate yet sparkling acoustic-driven track summarizes the intertwining of comparison, regret and acceptance, ultimately reminding listeners that we’re all on our own, separate paths. Whether in life, love or career, there’s no doubt that many can relate to the fear of falling behind or not measuring up.

For Jenna, this song was inspired by the pursuit of a music career and learning to love the long game:

“I’ve come to realize a lot about myself, and that the time I need to process things, create, and even just exist, might take longer than I want. There’s been a lot of feeling like, if I could have just started in music sooner (even though I know I’m still so young), I’d be that much closer to being where I want. However, that’s not how life happens, and I have to accept that everything is happening for me how and when it’s supposed to. But, gosh, sometimes it’s hard to see the light and how much progress you might be making when you’re in the thick of the burn.”

Q&A with Jenna:

Q: “What was the writing/recording process like? What was most challenging? What was the most rewarding?”

A: “The actual writing of the song was pretty simple. I initially had a few ideas for lyrics and chord progressions that didn’t pan out, but once I landed on the right chords, it just clicked. I’d say the most challenging part of the process was recording the vocals, because as always, I’m so hard on myself and have to record about a billion takes. Haha! The most rewarding part was trusting in someone else to help me with my vision, my producer Jim Wallis. This was the first time I’ve really done that, and it was scary but so worth it.”

Q: “What do you hope listeners take away?”

A: “I hope listeners can find some comfort from listening to ‘Slow Burn,’ that it doesn’t matter if their journey looks different than others’ because what matters is that it’s their journey and they’re on it.“
